Record tourism year for Greater Miami and the Beaches

Greater Miami and the Beaches had a record breaking year for tourism in 2018, welcoming 16.5 million overnight visitors and a further 6.8 million day trippers.

The combined 23.3 million visitors produced an economic impact of nearly $18 billion.

That was fueled mostly by international visitors who contributed an estimated 54%.

A record 15.6 million hotel room nights were sold in 2018, up slightly by 1.55% on 2017.

There were 5.8 million overnight international visitors with Latin America a key feeder market, notably Brazil, Colombia and Argentina.

These three nations contributed 20% of international overnight visitors, while LatAm as a whole represented 45% of the total, Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau said.

Domestically, New York City was the largest metro market, with 1.2 million visitors heading south for some sunshine.

The travel and hospitality sector employed a record 142,100 people during 2018, GMCVB said.
