Regulator: Air India tried to cover up ‘peegate’ incident
India’s air regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) says Air India tried to cover up the infamous ‘peegate’ incident.
DGCA chief Arun Kumar called it an ‘unfortunate’ incident that wasn’t handled competently.
Kumar said ‘everybody failed’ and the ‘case was not reported.’
The airline ‘tried to cover it up.’
The incident sparked outrage when an allegedly drunk passenger urinated on a 72-year old woman in business class.
Air India was fined $37,000 by the DGCA.
Air India admitted it should have handled the incident much better, ‘both in the air and on the ground.’
The first captain was suspended from flying for three months and Air India’s director of in-flight services was separately fined.
