Happy Toilet campaign will grade conveniences on a five-star basis
Anyone who has been shocked at the state of some of Singapore’s public toilets will no doubt be relieved to know that the country’s authorities are to introduce a rating system for its conveniences.
The system, which will operate on a five-star basis similar to hotel ratings, is part of a new government initiative called “Happy Toilet.” The campaign follows similar initiatives aimed at stopping residents from chewing gum, spitting, and leaving toilets unflushed. According to the online news provider Ananova the system will rate toilets according to their cleanliness, layout and “ergonomics”.
Jack Sim, president of the Singapore Restroom Association, said: “We came up with this programme because when you go inside a public toilet you do not know what to expect inside. Sometimes you are very happy, but sometimes you are very shocked – disgusted. When toilets are clean, people are happy and healthy.”
