The 2016 EgyptAir crash in 2016 that killed 66 people was likely caused by a cockpit fire. A French investigation suggests the pilot or co-pilot was smoking in the cockpit. A leak from the co-pilot’s oxygen mask then sparked a fire.
France’s aviation safety agency said the aircraft transmitted data which indicated there was smoke in the cabin.
EgyptAir flight MS804 disappeared from radar on en route from Paris to Cairo, killing everyone on board. The French Civil Aviation Safety Investigation Bureau said a fire likely took hold rapidly.
