Resorts World Las Vegas to break ground in May
The $4 billion Resorts World project in Las Vegas will break ground on May 5, owners Genting Berhad said.
Construction will last several years on the Asian-themed resort and the first phase is slated to include 3,000 hotel rooms and a casino with 3,500 slot machines and table games.
The property will also have 30 restaurant and bars and a 4,000-seat theater.
Genting spokesman Michael Levoff said preliminary work had been completed on the site and it would incorporate most of the existing buildings of the unfinished Echelon project.
“We’re creating an entertainment destination. We want to give people a new reason to come to Las Vegas, a great reason to come back, and it’s not about one or two attractions, but it’s about several.” Christian Goode, senior vice president of development at Genting said last year when details were unveiled.
A large aquarium and observation deck are also planned on the 87-acre site, which was once home to the Stardust.
The resort is targeted specifically at the Asian market and the main facade will feature a huge Chinese-style pagoda. Genting even wants to build a replica of the Great Wall of China and install a live panda enclosure.
Malaysia-based Genting also operates casinos and resorts in New York, Malaysia, The Philipines and Singapore.
