Responsible tourism networking history in the making
London pub meeting now grown into big-time annual event says writes Gopinath Parayil
A BIT OF HISTORY… At the World Travel Market London 2007 some of us got together under the initiative of The Blue Yonder and Tripbod to bring together those interested in Responsible Tourism.
A fringe event in a London pub has now grown into an annual event at the world’s largest travel shows like ITB-Berlin.
OUR APPROACH… The Responsible Tourism Networking community is a global network of travel innovators and enthusiasts working to "create better places for people to live and for people to visit."
Instead of a "copyright" on Responsible Tourism, we want to see the movement grow beyond brands and individuals.
NETWORKING EVENTS… We host on- and offline networking events across the world in combination with important travel and tourism trade shows so that interaction with main-stream industry is possible. This has grown into a place where innovative initiatives find their market and where market source their ‘content’. Networking is fun, it’s also good business.
So far the networking has happened in London, Berlin, Singapore, Oslo, Kathmandu, Delhi, Goa, Durban amongst others.
If you know of a tourism trade fair where you want to take a lead and organise such an event, we will be happy to support you and spread the word.
There is a lot we all can do to make the world a better place to live and visit… Engage, share, and inspire. Happy networking!
The Responsible Tourism fringe event is back this year with a vengeance – a little tidied up but interesting and ebullient as ever.
The get together is set for the Seven Dials Club 42 Earlham Street, WC2H 9LA and starts at 7pm until 11pm.
As ever there will be an opportunity to pitch (this time there is a form to fill in, though: the document can be used in the event of no-shows (the document will be shared with all people who come to the event and also online, so that it goes into the network).
The roadshow makes its way to the UK after appearances this year in Berlin, Africa and Asia.
