Ritz refuses to give details of Margaret Thatcher’s visit
Fans of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher who would like to stay in the luxury suite at London’s Ritz Hotel where she spent her last few months are unlikely to be given the room number.
Renowned for its discretion, a spokesman for the five-star luxury property said it would not reveal to guests which of its various suites the baroness was occupying when she died in bed yesterday morning.
Images of London’s Ritz Hotel, one of the country’s most iconic buildings, have been flashed around the world following her death from a stroke.
The baroness had been living at the hotel, where suites cost from £660 a night, since December after being discharged from hospital following an operation on her bladder.
An earlier series of minor strokes had left her too frail to negotiate the stairs in her central London home and friends had installed her in the five-star hotel instead.
Reports suggested The Ritz had "invited her to stay as long as she liked".
She died at 11.28 on Tuesday morning, while sitting in bed reading.
The hotel’s spokesman said: "It is the policy of The Ritz London not to comment on matters relating to clients or guests."
