Roam Free partners with leading NZ tourism technology provider
Online tourism services business Roamfree Ltd today announced it had entered the New Zealand market through a technology sharing agreement with IBIS Technology, a Queenstown-based company specialising in software systems for the tourism industry.
Roamfree Managing Director Tony Smith said the agreement would partner IBIS Technology, which provides online software to more than 70 information centres including 55 of New Zealand’s iSITEs, and Roamfree’s BookEasy business, in use by more than 100 Visitor Centres across Australia.
“Both IBIS and BookEasy supply technology which allows i-SITEs and Visitor Centres to compare rates, check room availability and make reservations, all in real time,” Mr Smith said.
“It makes sense to bring together these two leading providers of online software from either side of the Tasman in a deal that allows both IBIS and BookEasy to share their market-leading technology and, in doing so, improve their respective products and better serve customers.
“This deal will also mean that both i-SITES and Visitor Centres will benefit from an immediate boost to the real-time inventory available to them through Roamfree’s technology,” he said.
IBIS Managing Director Erik Bradshaw said our access to Roamfree technology means IBIS can deliver a market-proven, advanced accommodation system to our customers.
This partnership aligns us with a global company and marries together our respective strengths very well. We see this as an important stepping stone in establishing IBIS in the international market,“ Mr Bradshaw said.
IBIS Technology, established 12 years ago, provides real-time booking, vouchering and payment systems for tourism operators, inbound operators and information centres. Around 70% of systems used by i-SITEs around New Zealand are supplied by IBIS.
Entrepreneur Tony Smith, who founded BreakFree Resorts, launched Roamfree in 2006. Roamfree aims to establish an unrivalled network of online tourism solutions that help tourism operators such as hotels, resorts, motels and apartments meet the increasing demand for up-to-the-second online information on room availability, rates, packages and reservations.
