Royal Caribbean sued over Covid-19 death of crew member

The family of an Indonesian crew member who died after contracting Covid-19 filed a lawsuit in the US claiming negligence against Royal Caribbean Cruises.

The Miami suit alleges the line failed to protect crew members on the Symphony of the Seas.

The complaint says Pujiyoko, 27 from Bali, was not tested for six days despite displaying symptoms like a fever and shortness of breath.

Pujiyoko, like most Indonesians, goes by one name.

He was a member of the housekeeping team.

The cruise line failed to follow routine safety protocols and continued allowing buffets and social events even after the US issued a no sail order.

Pujiyoko was taken off the ship by lifeboat and transferred to a Fort Lauderdale hospital a week after reporting to the ship’s medical facility.

He later died in hospital.

According to attorney Michael Winkleman, he had passed all pre-employment medical screenings.

The suit is seeking an undisclosed amount for lost income and funeral costs.
