The European Commission has approved Ryanair’s acquisition of a 75% interest in Austrian airline, Laudamotion, but the airline has accused Lufthansa of trying to jeopardise the deal
Ryanair, which currently owns 24.9% of the new Austrian airline, has gone into partnership with Niki Lauda to launch Laudamotion.
But it claims the project is currently under threat by Lufthansa which it alleges is attempting to remove the nine aircraft Lufthansa was obliged by the Commission to provide to Laudamotion in order to allow Laudamotion to restart services.
Ryanair said it was the latest in a series of efforts by Lufthansa to ‘destabilise and damage’ Laudamotion.
Ryanair’s Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer, Juliusz Komorek said: "We urge the EU competition authorities to take action and prevent any further attempts by Lufthansa to damage competition through its anti-consumer behaviour."
Lufthansa has been contacted for a response.
