Ryanair looking at Mexico?

Tuesday, 27 Feb, 2006 0

Rumours of air carriers moving to Mexico continue with the latest media report saying Tony Ryan, founder of Ryanair, is looking at a start-up budget airline.

He may be working with a local firm.

Ryanair is making the investment through the family’s investment firm, Irelandia Investments, in conjunction with a Mexican bus company, according to one report.

The Mexican air market is clearly attractive because it could double to 40 million passengers in as little as three years.

Two new carriers, Avolar and Interjet, started operations last year.

Mexicans pay up to $50 for bus tickets, which is about what low-cost airlines charge for a plane ticket.
