San Francisco tour guide accused of being a spy for China

A San Francisco tour guide has been arrested and accused spying for China.

Xuehua ‘Edward’ Peng, 56 works as a tour guide operating tours for Chinese visitors in the city.

According to the FBI that is a front for more lucrative work passing classified secrets about US.national security to Beijing.

Peng was accused of using a ‘combination of age-old spycraft and modern technology.’

"The charges announced today provide a rare glimpse into the secret efforts of the People’s Republic of China to obtain classified national security information from the United States," said U.S. Attorney David L. Anderson.

Authorities had known about Peng’s alleged deeds at least as far back as 2015.

The FBI used a double agent from 2015 to conduct ‘dead drop’ exchanges with Peng who is alleged to have gone to China to deliver memory cards and meet with intelligence officials.

According to the criminal complaint, Peng became a naturalized US citizen in 2012.

He is being held without bond and could face 10 years in prison.
