Santorini oil spill clean up completed
A clean up of oil spilled from the sinking of the ship Sea Diamond off the Greek island of Santorini four months ago has been completed.
A committee, including the island’s mayor, head of the coast guard and local environmental protection representative, have given the shores of the island affected by oil stemming from the stricken vessel a clean bill of health.
Sea Diamond’s operator Louise Hellenic Cruises said a thorough inspection of thousands of meters of shoreline had been carried out.
“The excellent results of the inspection prove that the company and its insurers took the appropriate and most effective measures from the very beginning, handing over to the local authorities the shores duly clean and unaffected from any pollution,” a statement issued by Louis said.
