Second airport group agrees to fund EU employees’ applications to remain in UK
MAG, owner of Manchester, Stansted and East Midlands airports, has followed Heathrow in promising to fund EU workers’ applications to remain in the UK after Brexit.
It said it will cover the cost of £65 per person for its 400-plus EU employees to apply for ‘settled status’ after March 29 next year.
MAG said the move was designed to give ‘reassurance and comfort to value colleagues’ who were born in EU countries.
"EU-born colleagues currently play a variety of key roles across the company, including in aviation security, passenger assistance, retail as well as head office based roles," it said in a statement.
MAG chief strategy officer Tim Hawkins added: "We know how important it is for all our MAG colleagues – at London Stansted, Manchester and East Midlands – to have reassurance and certainty that they will be able to continue to live in the UK and work at the airport when the UK leaves the EU.
"We are therefore committing to support MAG colleagues from other EU countries by offering to pay any application fees that they incur as they apply for settled status in the UK."
MAG revealed this week that passenger numbers across all three airports was up by a total of 7.7% last month.
