The TV coverage of the Travelmole Web Awards goes live on the site today.

The awards ceremony, held last month at the Canadian Embassy in London, attracted around 200 guests.

“The Canadian Tourism Commission is delighted to have sponsored the TravelMole Awards for the third year running,” said Nicolas Fournier, manager travel trade and business tourism.

“This was a record and showed the growing popularity of the online community, the importance of this sector and its benefits to the travel industry.

“Congratulations to all the nominees and winners, who have shown creativity, dynamism and enthusiasm.”

First time sponsor Vertical Group said the success of the awards showed the commitment of the trade to the online sector.

CEO Peter Healey said: “We all know that current trading conditions are very difficult at the moment, but these awards have shown that the travel trade is committed to delivering high quality product and that development of websites and product has to continue to increase market share when the upturn in trading comes.

“The web continues to evolve, and the winners of these awards have been recognised for innovation, dedication and commitment.”

Travelport general manager UK and Ireland Jerome Moisan added: “Travelport was proud to be a headline sponsor at the 2009 TravelMole Web Awards. It was a great opportunity to see the diverse selection of innovative travel websites as well as meet talented entrepreneurs from the UK’s online travel industry. We look forward to next year’s event.”

The fourth headline sponsor was YouTravel.com.

Sales manager Liz Garfield said: “We were delighted to headline sponsor these awards again for the third year running.

“The event is an excellent occasion and brings together many different businesses and people from the world of online travel.

“It was a fantastic opportunity once again to catch up with friends and colleagues and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.”
