American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 took off from Logan Airprt in Boston on Sept. 11, 2001. A new $3.5 million memorial at Logan International Airport honors those who died after terrorists hijacked two airliners and crashed them into New York’s World Trade Center seven years ago.
The outdoor site, next to the Hilton Hotel and a parking garage, is planted with grass and gingko trees. Two walkways lead up a small knoll to a green glass cube containing the names of 148 people aboard the doomed flights.
Governor Deval Patrick, airport officials and victims’ families, will formally dedicate the 2.5-acre space.
Memorial officials say it also recognizes the employees who restored the aviation system and comforted victims’ friends and families.
