Singapore Airlines has introduced a new bidding tool for economy customers to upgrade to premium economy.
The mySQupgrade service is currently invitation only with qualifying customers able to bid for an upgrade from seven days before departure.
The tool shows the minimum and maximum bid amounts required for the relevant flight segment and indicates the likelihood of a successful bid.
If successful, passengers will be notified 48 hours prior to departure with a new flight itinerary detailing the upgrade.
Changes or the cancelation of a bid can be made up to 50 hours before scheduled departure, Singapore Air said.
The airline stresses its KrisFlyer frequent flyer members will still be given priority to book a premium economy upgrade using points.
The mySQupgrade service is only available for premium economy upgrades at the moment but Singapore Air hinted it will likely by rolled out for business and first class in the future.
