Singapore Airlines, ANA planning joint business venture
Singapore Airlines is in talks with All Nippon Airways to form a joint venture partnership.
The two airlines could announce an agreement for a JV by the end of the month, the Straits Times reports.
As members of the Star Alliance the carriers work closely together cross-selling flight itineraries.
A joint venture business would expand this to include partnering on flights to and from Malaysia and Indonesia as well as Japan and Singapore.
The Nikkei Asian Review reports a JV could launch in 2021 once the necessary antitrust and regulatory approvals are granted.
A joint venture business typically extends a codesharing arrangement to include coordinating flight schedules, marketing and other operational functions on specific routes.
Singapore Air inked a commercial joint venture agreement with Malaysia Airlines last year and also has similar tie-ups with Air New Zealand and Lufthansa.
