A Singapore Airlines jet has been damaged and taken out of service after the front landing gear mysteriously collapsed while it was sitting on the tarmac at Changi Airport.
Without warning the nose gear ‘retracted while the aircraft was undergoing a landing gear system check,’ a Singapore Airlines statement said.
"There were no passengers or crew on board at the time. One engineer who was on the aircraft was not injured. Singapore Airlines will be co-operating fully with the authorities in their investigations."
As the landing gear gave way the aircraft tilted forward, damaging the nose and undercarriage.
The incident caused a delay of about 40 minutes for the plane’s next scheduled departure while a replacement aircraft was found.
