Singapore Airlines to launch US route from Manchester
Singapore Airlines has announced a shake-up of its Manchester services.
From October 30 its daily Singapore flights, which currently operate via Munich, will be replaced by two services.
Manchester-Houston will operate five times a week and will become the airline’s first transatlantic services from the UK.
Alongside this, Singapore Airlines will operate a non-stop service from Manchester to Singapore, also five times a week.
The airline previously ran a direct non-stop flight from Manchester to Singapore between March 2003 and March 2010.
Ken O’Toole, CEO of Manchester Airport, said the new Houston service will open up a whole new part of America to business and leisure passengers across the North.
"The number of direct long haul routes from Manchester to the States has grown significantly in recent years and in 2017 there will now be more than 2 million seats available on flights between the two locations. This is the latest example of a route launching at Manchester that is not available anywhere else outside of London.
"It underlines the role Manchester Airport is playing in connecting the North with its most important business and tourism markets."
This year marks 30 years of Singapore Airlines flying from Manchester, making it the airport’s longest serving long haul carrier.
