Six passengers have been charged after unruly behaviour caused a San Diego-Chicago flight to be diverted to Amarillo, Texas.

The Southwest Airlines flight made the unscheduled landing at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport due to ‘loud, aggressive behaviour and obscene language’ according to court documents.

The six are charged with interference with a flight crew and aiding and abetting others.

After being denied alcohol by flight attendants, their behavior became more aggressive and accused the flight crew of racism, the court affidavit said.

All flight crew and passengers deplaned at Amarillo and were interviewed by police before resuming their journey to Chicago.

Court documents identified the six as Salman Hermez, Jonathan Khalid Petras, Ghaswan Asaad Shaba, Essa Solaqa, Khalid Yohana and Wisam Imad Shaker.
