Six German tourists killed as car ploughs into group at Italian ski resort
Six people have been killed and 11 injured after a car ploughed into a group of young German tourists at an Italian ski resort.
The crash took place at Lutago, also known as Luttach, near Bolzano, shortly after 1am on Sunday as the group were gathering to board their bus.
The victims, thought to be in their early 20s, had been leaving a club to return to their accommodation when they were struck while crossing the road.
The suspect is in hospital and has been arrested.
Three are in a serious condition, including a woman who was transferred to Innsbruck.
Two of those injured are thought to be Italian nationals who were not part of the tourist group.
South Tyrol governor Arno Kompatscher told a press conference: "The new year begins with a tragedy, we are close to the victims and their relatives."
