Southampton Airport has launched a dedicated AI powered digital assistant, to improve the travel experience for passengers ahead of the busy summer season.
Powered by Hello Lamp Post, the new AI-driven technology is live at the airport, and is designed to provide real-time information and enhance navigation throughout the terminal.
A trial of the airport digital assistant tech was held last year at sister airport Glasgow in partnership with Connected Places Catapult which focused on passengers requiring special assistance.
The trial showed that there was a 50% reduction in queries being received by customer service staff and 12,300+ more passengers were supported per year
It had a 86% satisfaction rate
Following the trial, Southampton Airport has collaborated closely in partnership with Hello Lamp Post to refine and expand the tool’s capabilities.
Accessible via location-specific QR codes on passengers’ devices, the digital assistant offers up-to-date flight information, navigation assistance and tailored passenger support.
Gavin Williams, MD at Southampton Airport said: “We are delighted that we have been able to launch this cutting-edge technology in our airport with real-time information available.”
“It will further enhance the customer experience, ensuring smoother and more personalised journeys.”
Tiernan Mines, Co-Founder and CEO of Hello Lamp Post added: “We’re pleased to see our AI-powered platform now live at Southampton Airport, following the positive impact at Glasgow Airport.
“By helping to reduce repetitive questions, our digital assistant allows staff to focus on more pressing matters and provide better support where needed.”
