Southwest Airlines’ in-flight concerts out of tune with passengers
Southwest Airlines plans to expand the number of live music performances hosted on flights, however it’s not music to the ears of many Southwest flyers.
The idea has been roundly mocked on social media as a bad idea and disruptive for flyers.
Southwest finalized a deal with Warner Music Nashville for more in-flight concerts.
The little known ‘Live at 35’ program has actually been running since 2011 and only features about 20 performances each year.
Performances are usually by acoustic musicians and country artists on short or medium range domestic services.
There were many rather uncomplimentary posts being bandied around the Twitterverse about the prospect of being forced to listen to a concert in the clouds with no chance to escape.
Scathing comments included ‘the greatest evil the world has ever known’ and a ‘hellish’ idea.
Still, the airline remains undeterred.
"We take into account the time of day and the type of travel," it said, adding that passengers watching a performance ‘oftentimes leave as new fans of the bands.’
