Southwest Airlines has rolled out a flight compensation program for delays.
The program is part of the $140 million settlement agreed with U.S. Department of Transportation over the Christmas holiday meltdown in 2022.
The disruption led to 16,900 flight cancellations and stranded around two million passengers.
The airline was also fined $35 million.
Under the settlement terms Southwest will provide $90 million in travel vouchers of $75 or more to passengers delayed at least three hours for a three-year period.
The US Administration has since outlined a comprehensive compensation policy mandating cash refunds for significant delays and flight cancelations.
Southwest launched the program earlier this month.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Southwest’s flight compensation program will ‘really lead the market and it will be very interesting to see how other airlines respond.’
