Southwest Airlines workers rewarded with ‘gratitude pay’ for flight cancellation meltdown

Southwest Airlines flight cancellation meltdown is set to cost the airline even more.

It will reward some employees with bonuses who worked through the operational nightmare.

The airline will pay pilots about $45 million in ‘gratitude pay’ as a thank you.

Others including flight attendants will also receive bonuses.

There were thousands of flight cancellations spread across several days during the holidays.

It blamed its scheduling software.

The airline is now refunding and compensating travelers, including offering reward points as an apology.

It is estimated the total cost could be as high as $800 million,
