Southwest worker charged for $79,000 flight voucher fraud
A Southwest Airlines worker is facing charges for alleged theft totaling about $79,000 in complimentary travel vouchers.
Brooklyn Jones, a customer service agent is accused of printing hundreds of Southwest Luv Vouchers in the name of customers he had previously served.
They were used personally by him or were sold for cash.
The vouchers are given out to passengers to compensate those who have suffered significant flight disruption or had a bad travel experience.
He worked at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
Jones has confessed and led investigators to his work locker to return 119 unused vouchers worth about $36,300.
He is due to appear in court on September 16.
The airline’s security team first conducted an internal investigation after suspicions were raised.
After Jones confessed it was then passed on to the police.
Southwest says Jones is no longer an employee of the airline.
There has been a number of cases of in-house flight voucher theft or fraud at US airlines in recent years.
In 2023, another Southwest Airlines worker at Chicago Midway airport was arrested for fraudulently generating travel vouchers worth about $1.8 million and selling them for a discount.
