Just a day after announcing his sudden departure as chief operating officer of SpiceJet, Sanjiv Kapoor has been formally appointed as chief strategy and commercial officer at rival Indian carrier Vistara.
He will begin work at Vistara in February 2016.
He succeeds Vistara’s current chief commercial officer Giam Ming Toh who returns to Singapore Airlines, which is one of Vistara’s two major shareholders.
Kapoor said: "I am delighted to be taking on the role of Vistara’s chief strategy and commercial officer. The airline has the best possible parentage in the Tata group and Singapore Airlines and with such wonderful genes, the world is its oyster. Given its laser focus on its people, product and customers, I look forward to working with Phee Teik and the entire Vistara team."
Kapoor has spent 19 years in senior positions in the airline industry in Asia, Europe, and the US, including Northwest Airlines and as CEO of GMG Airlines.
"We are happy to welcome Sanjiv to Vistara as he will be joining us at a time when the airline embarks on a new phase of growth – with the new aviation policy around the corner and the successful completion of the first year of operation," said Phee Teik Yeoh, Vistara CEO.
