The Lunar New Year holiday in China generated $61.5 billion in spending according to the China National Tourism Administration.
That is a healthy year-on-year rise of more than 15%.
The CNTA also estimated more than 6.15 million took overseas trips to celebrate the week long holiday.
That is an increase of about 7% CNTA said.
At home China railways reported 52 million people went home for the holidays by rail.
As part of China’s five year tourism plan, the government has targeted tourism to contribute 12% of GDP.
