St Jude damages cars belonging to Dover cruise passengers
Fifty cars belonging to passengers travelling with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines have been damaged by Monday’s St Jude storm.
The vehicles had been parked at Dover Western Docks by holidaymakers currently on board two ships, Braemar and Black Watch.
The cars were damaged by seas washing over the breakwaters during the high winds – which at some points reached up to 70 miles per hour.
Fred Olsen managing director Mike Rodwell said passengers had been informed and the company had allowed them to make free telephone calls to contact insurance companies and family or friends.
He saidd: "Together with the Port of Dover, we will do everything we possibly can to ensure that none of our customers is inconvenienced due to this storm and will be liaising closely with them to prepare for their arrival in Dover next week."
A port spokesman added: "We will be providing every assistance to its cruise customers in dealing with insurance claims, onward travel arrangements or any other requirement to support them following this very unfortunate turn of events."
The Port of Dover has now re-opened and ferry services have resumed from the Eastern Docks with the port’s tugs in assistance to ensure the safety of its customers.
There has only been some relatively minor superficial damage to the Eastern Docks, although the Western Docks bore the brunt of the storm.
Passengers on Braemar will return from their East Med cruise on Tuesday, November 5, while Black Watch passengers are due to return from their Western Med cruise on Saturday, November 16.
