Storm Lilian travel chaos as bank holiday flights cancelled
Storm Lilian is causing havoc for holidaymakers on the busiest day of the year so far for jetting off on holiday.
Weather forecasters predict wind speeds of up to 80mph across the country.
British Airways has cancelled 14 departing flights from London Heathrow so far, with more delayed.
“Due to restrictions imposed by air traffic control as a result of adverse weather, we’ve made some minor adjustments to our schedule,” BA said.
“We’ve apologised to our customers for the disruption and are helping get them to their destinations as quickly as possible.”
These include flights to Italy, Switzerland and the US as well as some domestic flights.
Leeds Bradford Airport cancelled two flights this morning and the Leeds festival at Bramham Park has been disrupted with two stages closed.
There are several Yellow weather warnings in place which is being extended into Saturday in the Southeast.
Some train services were disrupted due to downed trees on train lines.
The RAC estimated over 19 million leisure trips by car were planned this holiday weekend, which would be the most ever recorded.
