British Airways is gearing up to run more than 500 flights to and from 50 long haul and European destinations over the four days of the bank holiday weekend.

The airline’s 1,200 cabin crew at Gatwick have ignored Unite’s strike calls meaning that flights from the UK’s second busiest airport have been unaffected.

BA has a total of 3,000 Gatwick-based staff and operates to 37 European and domestic destinations and 13 long haul points.

The carrier’s long haul network from the airport has grown this summer to cover 52 departures a week to 13 destinations.
The most popular destinations for families are Orlando and Tampa in Florida.
Other top holiday spots include Male in the Maldives, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and seven other Caribbean destinations.

BA’s Gatwick general manager Alan Peever said: “Our operations are at full throttle this weekend as thousands of families take advantage of the half-term holiday.

“Flights are extremely full, and all our teams are looking forward to providing our customers with the best possible service in the air and on the ground.”
