Super snowstorms cancel thousands of flights
As a combination of two winter storms fused together bears down on the Northeast on Friday, airlines have cancelled 3,775 flights to and from the region according to the airline tracking website, Flightaware. Boston’s Logan and other New England airports will stop flights on Friday between noon and 4 p.m. and restart Saturday afternoon after what weather experts say could be two feet of snow in some areas has fallen. All major US airlines flying in the region are allowing fee-free ticket changes.
Amtrak said trains in the Northeast corridor will stop running on Friday afternoon, and although snow had not yet accumulated in New York City at press time (Friday 11:00 a.m.) Mayor Michael Bloomberg had promised that snow plows would be at the ready and 250,000 pounds of salt are on standby.
