TC despondent about Government policy on passenger protection

Wednesday, 17 December 20083 min read

The UK Government will not back down on its plans for passenger protection, according to Manny Fontenla-Novoa.

The Thomas Cook chief executive said the airline industry is too powerful in its influence over ministers.

“The airlines argue that they cannot pay the bond as they have to compete on an international level. I think that’s nonsense but the Government will not change its mind,” he said.

“The Government has made its position clear. They write us very nice letters telling us they sympathise, but they are not going to budge.”
