A British holidaymaker and her daughter were among four people injured when a chafing dish caught fire.
GM JoseÌ Luis FernaÌndez said the explosion was "unusual and surprising" and issued this detailed statement:
"Tenerife board of Bahia Principe Tenerife is investigating the cause of a chafing dish that caught fire on December 27, unfortunately causing injuries of varying degrees to four guests near the chafing dish at the time.
The fire started after a server attending the snack bar had prepared the burner dish with a corresponding gel packet used for fuel, in order to warm the serving plates. Once the unexpected flames burst, the hotel’s help crew and risk prevention team immediately called upon the aid of fire rescue to attend to the injured guests and were taken to nearby hospitals without delay.
The hotel’s board has a built-in protocol that is actively functioning in following the health and recovery of the four injured guests and their family members. According to medical sources and family members, the four guests are thankfully recovering nicely.
The hotel’s technology and maintenance department find this accident unusual and surprising since this product passes all safety certifications for use and all parts passed timely technical revisions; additionally, all staff using the equipment is highly trained to use it and on its functions. The board is anticipating the results and analysis of police investigators hoping for answers on the cause of this accident.
