Four Japanese tourists and a Thai tour guide were killed in a fiery minivan crash in Thailand’s Ayutthaya province.
The vehicle is thought to have collided with a parked truck and then burst into flames killing all five van passengers.
They all died at the scene, said provincial chief of tourist police Sarut Rayanon.
"The four Japanese tourists killed included two men and two women," he told AFP.
The incident happened near the popular ancient temple city of Ayutthaya.
The city is one of the most popular day trip destinations from capital Bangkok.
The tourists, identified as Katsuhiko Narimoto, 65, Haruka Narimoto, 30, Kumiko Komeima, 59, and Yoshio Komeima, 68, were on a tour organised by Tokyo-based Nippon Travel Agency Co at the time.
Thailand has one of the highest traffic accident rates in Southeast Asia with about 24,000 people dying each year on its roads, according to statistics published by the World Health Organization in a 2015 report.
