Thailand to set minimum rates for tour packages

Monday, 25 Nov, 2019 0

Thailand’s tourism department has officially set minimum prices for package tours in an effort to improve standards and root out controversial ‘zero dollar’ tour scams.

From next year tours will be capped at a minimum price ranging from THB800 per person per night for groups originating from Southeast Asian countries up to THB1,500 per person for those from outside Asia.

Minimum prices for a one-day domestic tour package will be THB300 or double if including overnight accommodation.

Tassanee Kiatkamchornchai, honorary secretary-general of the Thai Travel Agents Association said it will hopefully raise standards and improve safety..

The minimum price caps are for both inbound and outbound tours

Vichit Prakobgosol, president of the Association of Thai Travel Agents said this is the first step to restore credibility to the industry and should root out all further zero dollar tours.

The rules were issued under the Tourism Business and Guide Act of 2008, and approved last week by the Tourism Business and Guide Committee.
