Thailand’s six main air hubs set a new record in 2015, handling 110 million passengers.
It was up by more than 21% on 2014.
Figures from Airports of Thailand Plc recorded a 16% increase in aircraft takeoffs and landings in part due to expansion of Bangkok’s Don Mueang and Phuket airports.
Despite a temporary downturn after the Erawan Shrine bombing in Bangkok, Thailand still managed to attract nearly 30 million arrivals, spurred by an influx of Chinese tourists.
Arrivals by air from China grew by a massive 71%, and now accounts for more than a quarter of all inbound visitors to Thailand.
Apart from China other East Asia markets also grew significantly.
Japanese arrivals increased 9% and there were 22% more Koreans in 2015.
