Thanksgiving return was busiest ever day for air travel
Sunday’s mass return from the Thanksgiving holiday was officially the busiest ever day for air travel in the US.
Over 2.9 million travelers passed through airports, the Transportation Security Administration said.
TSA officers screened a total of 2,907,378 passengers
TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said it was a 10% increase on 2022.
“If you thought your airport was crowded, not only was it crowded, but it was the busiest day ever at security checkpoints in the history of @TSA,” Farbstein posted on X.
The previous single day record was earlier this year in June, with 2.88 million.
Despite the numbers there were few disruptions.
The only exception was at snowbound Chicago airports.
There were 900 delayed flights but only three were canceled.
American Airlines said it carried an all-time record of almost 6.5 million customers on nearly 60,000 flights between November 16 and 26.
United Airlines also had a record number of customers flying over the Thanksgiving holiday.
