Monday, 08 Apr, 2009 0

The International Ecotourism Society’s website (www.ecotourism.org) has gone through a major makeover this spring, redesigned and re-branded with a new look and a number of  new and improved features.

Among the key highlights of the new site is Ecotourism Explorer, an interactive map of all TIES members around the world. Providing up-to-date information on businesses and organizations engaged in ecotourism, Ecotourism Explorer makes searching for responsible travel options easy and fun for travelers, while at the same time providing significant marketing opportunities for businesses and destinations.

"Our new site, with its diverse options for more interactive user experiences, will greatly enhance member benefits, and contribute to TIES efforts to further our mission of supporting and strengthening our global ecotourism network, enhancing educational opportunities, and bringing about sustainable change in the travel and tourism industry," said Ferdinand Weps, TIES Director of

An online community featuring a state-of-the-art interactive map, Ecotourism Explorer is a global network for individuals and organizations committed to the principles of ecotourism. Every member of TIES has a unique profile on Ecotourism Explorer, highlighting information on what makes them special – e.g. volunteer opportunities, ways to support ecotourism initiatives, tour activities, company highlights, and current projects and employment opportunities.

The new site also provides unique networking and professional development opportunities through the Experts Bureau, a searchable database of TIES Professional members highlighting their areas of expertise and professional achievements. The new Experts Bureau will help connect professionals looking for opportunities and individuals and organizations seeking experts to fill their consulting, speaking, and training needs.

TIES new website incorporates many user-driven experiences, offering increased opportunities for site visitors to contribute to the regularly-updated site content. The tools such as Ecotourism Job Board and Ecotourism Events Calendar serve as the one-stop information hub for current opportunities in ecotourism from around the world, with the latest information submitted by TIES members from over 90 countries.

With the new website, in addition to its refreshing new looks, TIES members will also enjoy access to various upgraded online e-learning tools and resources, including eLibrary and Multimedia Room, and various marketing tools available for members of all levels, helping promote their ecotourism initiatives.

Anyone interested in ecotourism can become a member of TIES at the Traveler or Student level for free, and be part of this new online community. Businesses and organizations seeking opportunities to stand out from the crowd and create a buzz about their green practices and sustainability projects can take advantage of the marketing benefits offered to members, catering to specific needs.

Organizational membership levels are available from US$150 per year for the following categories: Business (tour operators, lodging facilities, consulting firms, and affiliated businesses), Institution (governments, CVB’s, DMO’s, tourism offices), NGO (non-profit and non-governmental organizations), and College & University (academic institutions).
