Thomas Cook shop stormed by masked men with sledgehammers

Two men wearing balaclavas stormed a Thomas Cook shop in Manchester yesterday.

According to the Manchester Evening News, they burst into the shop on Manchester Fort, a retail park in north Manchester, at around 4.45pm.

"Witnesses said the men used sledgehammers to try to smash through the window of a bureau de change, while a terrified member of staff sat behind.

According to reports, there were customers in the shop at the time, shouting, screaming, and crying.

But the thieves fled empty handed when police and security staff were alerted and arrived at the scene.

A Thomas Cook spokesman confirmed an attempted robbery took place.

"All persons present during the incident are safe and unharmed. The safety of our staff and customers remains our priority and we are working with the police to assist them with their investigation," said a spokesman.

A spokesman for Greater Machester Police said anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
