Thousands of flights cancelled as winter pounds Northeast

Over 1,839 flights were cancelled on Wednesday and into Thursday due to severe winter storm weather moving Northeast.

FlightAware.com said that over 1,839 flights were cancelled as of Wednesday afternoon at about 4 PM.

The site says that the biggest issue is high winds and winds "not aligned with runways"  Cancellations and delays were expected to continue as storm weather moved toward the NY-Metro area.

Airports most affected so far include Dallas Fort Worth with 265 cancellations, Philadelphia with 214 and Indianapolis with 160.  American Airlines had the most cancellations with 347, followed by Delta with 118 and Southwest with 78.
