Thousands ready to flee as Philippines volcano erupts
Thousands of residents are on alert after a major Philippines volcano erupted.
They were told to flee villages as the country’s most active volcano began spewing lava.
The state volcanology agency said those living within six kilometers of the Philippines volcano Mayon should evacuate.
The volcano in Albay province is a popular tourist attraction for its perfect conical shape and surrounding scenery.
There has been an increase in pyroclastic flows and seismic activity in the past few days.
An advisory was issued for aircraft in the region with some airspace restrictions.
The Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported more than 20 earthquakes in the past day.
