The easing Aussie dollar and growing domestic and international visitation is driving confidence among Australia’s tourism operators.
So much so that operators have rated the sector’s performance in the December quarter at the highest level since the inception of the TTF-MasterCard Tourism Industry Sentiment Survey.
TTF chief executive Ken Morrison said the survey paints a positive picture for tourism.
"Respondents rated the tourism industry’s performance in the December quarter at record levels, both well above the average for this time of year and the highest since the survey’s inception," he said.
"We are also seeing positive sentiment about key business indicators including forward bookings, sales and profitability which bode well for the industry’s future," Morrison added.
There was no mention in the survey report about whether the surge in confidence is restricted to the major capital cities or if it is shared by regional tourism destinations such the Kimberley in Western Australia or Kakadu in the Northern Territory.
The survey is being launched as Tourism & Transport Forum members gathered in Canberra for Leadership 2014, TTF’s dialogue with the federal government and opposition on key issues facing the tourism, transport and aviation sectors.
