Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourist Police have opened a new centre at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport which authorities say is a “one-stop†port of call for tourists in trouble.
If successful, the concept would be extended to Phuket, Samui and Pattaya airports.
The Suvarnabhumi centre provides assistance to visitors, accepts complaints, and even promises a fresh cup of coffee will be brewed for every traveller who drops by.
Tourists who need assistance can also call a Thailand Tourist Police hotline.
Suvarnabhumi Airport has attracted some bad publicity in recent times with allegations that tourists passing through the airport are the victims of scams involving “stolen†duty free items.
In 2009, the Thai government stepped in after reports of passengers being detained at the airport for alleged shoplifting, and then made to pay middlemen to win their freedom.
