The Carbon Consultancy which has been working with the travel industry to support carbon emissions management has today launched a new carbon webservice for the industry.

Webservice 2.0, will convert raw travel data and basic power data into carbon emissions values. The webservice delivers a value in 2-3 milliseconds using national, international and refined conversion metrics to support both corporate reporting and education programmes. Webservice 2.0 provides access to online reporting and provides a carbon data storage option for users.

The webservice is available for tour operators, travel management companies and other travel professionals. Commenting on the launch CEO, Hugo Kimber said, “We recognise the need for travel companies to be able to support their efforts on climate change with inexpensive and practical solutions that will lead to real emissions reduction and support the delivery of information to clients.”

The webservice can be used to support websites, intranets, itinerary generation and as a part of financial administration. Kimber observed “ One of the results of managing carbon emissions is that achieving a reduction in emissions leads to cost savings and benefits the environment. This message coupled with increased appreciation of risk management and business opportunities relating to climate change is helping more travel companies to engage with carbon reduction.”
