Travel firm fined for codeshare disclosure violation
The US Department of Transportation (DOT) reports it has issued a fine against WK Travel, Inc., owners of OneTravel.com for codeshare disclosure violations.
Handing down a $95,000 civil penalty, DOT said the company failed to disclose the name of the operating carrier on codeshare flights during test calls made by the DOT’s Aviation Enforcement Office in January and February of 2013.
Rules state that all airlines and agents are required to inform customers of the name of the operating carrier prior to comfirming a booking.
DOT determined that "WK Travel generally failed to inform consumers booking flights involving codeshare arrangements of the identity of the airline that would actually operate the aircraft on which the consumer would be flying."
Accepting the fine, WK Travel agreed to a cease-and-desist order and pledged to retrain agents. Under the terms of the enforcement half the fine will be waived if the company does not repeat similar violations for one year.
Since the start of 2013, DOT has fined eight companies for codeshare disclosure violations, totaling $555,000.
