Tour operators and travel agents are gearing up for renewed interest and a surge in holiday bookings on the back of the scrapping of pre-departure tests. It saves hundreds of pounds on the cost of an average family holiday.
"Now Omicron is so prevalent these measures are having limited impact on the growth in cases while continuing to pose significant costs on our travel industry," PM Boris Johnson scrapped said.
"The ultimate goal will be removal of all testing for travel and developing a playbook for how to deal with any new variants," said Shai Weiss, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, who applauded the move.
