Travel planning platform Rome2rio acquired
Australia based transportation search platform Rome2rio has been acquired by European travel planning site Omio.
The transaction will see both brands remain independent of each other although there will be close collaboration.
Rome2rio allows consumers to search and plan travel globally across 10 million locations using all public transportation modes including taxis, buses ferries and rail.
It has an estimated 18 million users a month.
They plan to marry Rome2rio’s end-to-end journey planning capabilities with Omio’s bookable transportation inventory.
Omio’s booking platform focuses primarily on Europe and the acquisition gives it a much wider global footprint.
"We are excited to welcome the Rome2rio team to Omio. They have built a great product with innovative tech and delivered impressive growth. Together, our two brands will reach half a billion users every year," said Naren Shaam, CEO and founder of Omio.
Omio partners with about 800 transportation providers and its app has been downloaded 18 million times.
