Travel salaries rebound
The average salary for new jobs in the travel sector was up in October, while the number of new candidates and vacancies also rose.
The latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Recruitment Consultancy and Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment found average salaries increased by 1.61% last month to £24,548, following a fall in September.
Annually, salaries were up by 1.27%, while the three-month average figure remained static, but rose by a healthy 2.52% compared to the same period in 2012.
"After an underwhelming few months, we’re delighted to see that salaries are increasing again," said Barbara Kolosinska, sales director at C&M Recruitment Consultancy.
"This is a positive sign not only for candidates, but also for the whole industry as it suggests that travel companies are becoming more confident and looking to strengthen their teams with experienced candidates.
"It now appears that the average travel salary for 2013 will see a healthy rise from last year, which is great news as we head into the winter period."
October’s total number of new jobs ranked second only to May as the best month of 2013 so far.
Meanwhile, the number of new candidates rose by 9.67% to reach its highest level since July.
"The sharp increase in new job vacancies in the month suggests that travel companies are already feeling optimistic about 2014 and are aiming to put new recruits in place ready for the start of the year," said Kolosinska.
